CAM TREATMENT FOR LEUKEMIA

Posted on November 17th, 2009 in Alternative Medicine , ,

You can find many treatment for this cancer. Here I only mention a few treatments which make me interest. For me, it’s a new breakthrough as oncologychannel.com included Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) in their site. They wrote that complementary therapies (integrative medicine) that may be used in patients who have leukemia include the following:

  • Electromagnetic therapy (e.g pulsed electromagnetic fields, magnet therapy)
  • Energy therapy (e.g., therapeutic touch, Reiki, Qi gong)
  • Exercise and movement (e.g., dance, yoga T’ai chi)
  • Manipulation (e.g., chiropractic, therapeutic massage, osteopathy, reflexology)
  • Mind-body therapy (e.g., aromatherapy, biofeedback, cognitive behavioral therapy, hypnosis, imagery, meditation, relaxation therapy)
  • Naturopathic medicine
    • Botanical medicine (phytotherapy; e.g., teas, poultices, tinctures)
    • Clinical nutrition (including special diets and supplements; e.g., macrobiotics, vegetarian, soy, antioxidants)
    • Homeopathy (alternative medical system that uses tiny doses of substances called remedies to stimulate the body’s defense mechanism)
    • Hydrotherapy (water therapy)
  • Physical medicine (e.g., massage therapy, physical therapy)
  • Psychological medicine (e.g., counseling, support groups)
  • Spiritual therapies (e.g., intercessory prayer, prayer lines)
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM; e.g., acupuncture, herbal medicine)

On In Search of Nature’s Secret I have mentioned about Rosy Periwinkle, plant which is believed as cancer treatment. I wouldn’t recommended any treatment for you since all of the treatment is good. You can read No Art is Perfect to ensure you about medical treatment and how deal with your disease.

Pau d'arcoThere’s a good information which I took from holisticonline.com. It’s Pau d’arco herb. It’s also called as Lapacho, Tabebuia avellandedae, Tabubuia impetiginosa. Lapacho is believed to stimulate the production of red blood cells in bone marrow. This improves the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood. This, in turn, has important implications for the health of tissues throughout the body.

For maximum benefit, take the whole herb of lapacho, rather than the active ingredient separately. Lapachol, the active ingredient in lapacho, when used alone, was found to precipitate severe side reactions. When the whole herb was given, it produced clinical anticancer effects without the toxic side effects, according to Daniel B. Mowrey, Ph. D. in Herbal Tonic Therapies, Wings Books, New York, 1996 and Linardi, M.C.F., et. al., J. Med. Chem., 18, 1159, 1975.

Survive

I was a medical student (co-assistant) in an Academic Hospital. There’s a very kind woman who suffered from AML. She always smiled on her suffering, eventhough the disease was gnawing her. Everything (but not include integral treatment) had been done to give her the best treatment, but all of the result was not satisfying. A month after, I heard she’s passed away.

The five-year relative survival rate has nearly quadrupled in the past 48 years for patients with leukemia. From 1960 to 1963, the five-year relative survival rate among Americans of European descent with leukemia was 14 percent. From 1975 to 1977, the five-year relative survival rate for all persons with leukemia jumped to 35 percent, and from 1999 to 2005 the overall relative survival rate was 54 percent. The relative survival rates differ by the person’s age at diagnosis, gender, race and the type of leukemia.

From 1999 to 2005, the five-year relative survival rates overall were:
• Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL): 66.3 percent overall; 90.9 percent for children under 5
• Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL): 78.8 percent
• Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML): 23.4 percent overall; 60.2 percent for children under 15
• Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML): 53.3 percent

Statistic results above can be used as the prognosis. Honestly, either good or bad, it’s depend on how good the therapy and the condition of the patient overall. Currently, there are approximately 245,225 people living with leukemia in the United States.

I quote some of these followings from Oncologychannel.com. I did not quote any happy ending or miracle stories, but I quoted the story of them who really survive or even dying of this pain. These are the story of living with leukemia. These are the story of people who really care of their beloved person. All of their live struggle with this disease, hope getting free from this disease someday.

Shocked and Worried sick.

I was just diagnosed with leukemia a mild form of it and very slow growing, needs at this time no treatment. My spleen is enlarged quite a bit. I would say i have had this for sometime by the spleen size. I generally feel good. But i am down and can’t shake the feeling.

Hairy leukemiaDear Joe,
Please take heart and do not despair. I am a 10 year survivor of hairy-cell leukemia (a slow growing very rare type of leukemia) treated successfully with a 7-day infusion of cladribine. I am in full remission and visit my hematologist only twice a year. Curiously, a close friend was diagnosed two years before I was with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) (very common type of leukemia). She started in Stage 0 and is still in Stage 0. She has not required any treatment at all for 12 years. We both live in upstate New York, are in our late 50s, and remain close friends, although we live about 1.5 hours away from each other. My only suggestion would be to make sure you are satisfied with your oncologist/hematologist and are seen at a major medical center. You may also want to contact a patient services person at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. They are very helpful. I am a First Connection Volunteer with them for other hairy-cell leukemia patients. They try to match patients for gender, age group, and specific disease type.

I wish you well and good health. This is only a bump in the road; I have been there too!

mom I love you

when i was 11 years old my mother was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through chemotherapy. She went from being 30 and beautiful and happy to 80 lbs and weak. I remember when it first truly hit me….we were sitting there and she was brushing her hands through her hair and handfuls were just falling out and she asked me to help her. she couldn’t eat threw up all the time and was so tender that she couldnt be touched. the pain of watchn the person who you always wanted to be like ur mother and best friend slowly die is nothing i would ever wish on my worst enemy. I lost apart of me. but id rather know shes happy in heaven then to watch her suffer here on earth. It changed everything i mean everything. lifes to short live it to the furthest. I would give her a kiss every night but it killed me when i couldnt no more because she was to sore and DYING. lifes never been the same and you see everything even the sky in a different perspective. but i know we’ll be together again. life is short heavens eternity. time means nothing there.

Please, survive…. That’s the only thing we have to do.
