MODERN THERAPY FROM ANCIENT ART

Modern therapy term usually refer to the recent therapy, which is introduced by modern medicine. The therapy includes hormon, antibiotic, surgical activity, genetic engineering, etc has been successful helping many people worldwide. This is a quite spectacular achievment. That’s why, as I said above, modern therapy term usually refer to the modern medicine. But, in this section, I want to say that modern therapy is not always refer to it. Tough the fact that recent therapy seems to be the modern medicine, the truth is modern therapy came from the ancient art.
We always think that modern means recent times or the present. It’s not wrong. From thefreedictionary.com, modern have a few meanings. One of them you might be interested in is “Of or relating to recently developed or advanced style, technique, or technology (eg. modern art, modern medicine)”. Each time we have developed something, it’s called as modern. Each time we have advanced technology, it’s called as modern. And, each time we have advanced therapy, it’s called as modern. Then, when China practitioner use acunpunture to anesthetize without using drug, we can call it as a modern therapy. When Europe practitioner use osteopathy to permanently heal Otitis Media Purulenta using hand manipulation, we definitely call it as modern. When Malaysian practitioner use homeopathy to treat autism, we call it as modern, too. When Indian practitioner use herbal to heal asthma, we surely call it as modern. Everything which can heal without using drugs (pill, tablet, capsule, etc), we call as advanced therapy, and advanced means modern.
As a medical doctor, I can’t ignore the fact that alternative medicine has achieved their great success in the last decade. They seemed to be the future of medical dream which are real. More and more treatment will be based on natural approach, not only drugs. When you get fever, you’d like to take antibiotic. But, what would you take to stabilize your blood pressure? Of course, you’d like to take anti-hypertension which mean ‘until the rest of your life’. It’s supposed to be the last choice, then what will be the first one?
When modern medicine declared their success in achieving pain-relieved, they also declared their own failed. Every single medical innovation will always accompany with new problem. What happened when viagra was declared as the solution for erectile dysfunction? While many people took the advantage and smiled, many people died by heart attack. What happened when quinine was declared as the solution for malaria? Many people must accepted their fate as deaf because quinine is known as hearing-toxic. What happened to the people who used steroid for their skin problem? Steroid made their skin dry slowly before creating a new problem and making worse the main problem.
Amazing Manual therapy
Alternative medicine has been amazing me since I was in college. But, I kept it in the deepest of my heart, because I know it sounded too weird for my colleagues. All of what I, or we exactly, want was to get medical doctor title, get money, and get a specialize. May be we’d like to continue to Master programme or may be to be a professor in medical science. Of course all of medical students dreamed about it, but I have my own dream.
Let’s see. In Indonesia, there’r so many reflexology practitioner give their treatment for a very cheap price. They are using a small wood to massage patient’s foot. It’s rather different from physiotherapy that I know. I agree this is a good manual therapy for many cases, especially muscle problem, hypertension, diabetes, etc. The only one problem which always make many patients didn’t continue this treatment is the pain during massage. It’s really painful.
I have a problem with my hand and foot since I was a kid which often get sweating all of a sudden. It’s called as hyperhydrosis. I run into meeting an electrotherapist. He really used a harmless-low-voltage electricity to massage his patients. Somehow, he pointed my left upper back (at heart position) with his hand and stimulated the area with electricity. I felt very comfortable in my heart as if I wanted to be in that situation forever. In that day I could feel that my hyperhydrosis was gone. I couldn’t believe that my hand and foot didn’t get sweating at all for more than 3 days. It’s amazing! Of course, it needed more that one time treatment to get the best result.
There’s another one. My grandfather have a chronic problem with his digestion. He felt so painful on his stomach. He couldn’t eat something, only drank warm water, no flatus, and no excrement at all. And there came his sister. She was 87 years old. She massaged his rigid abdomen gently, tried to locate the stomach problem, and released the pain. Amazing! My grandfather got flatus a few times. He continued flatus and feel much comfortable. He asked for food and ate them.
If you know a few of amazing manual therapy, feel free to mention it in your comment. I will much appreciate it.
